Mr. Adams began his conducting studies at S.U.N.Y. Fredonia under Harry John Brown. Upon graduation he received his certification as a Registered Music Therapist. In 1976 he moved to the Aspen area and began his studies as a Conducting Fellow with the Aspen Music Festival under Murry Sidlin. Mr. Adams participated in Master Classes with Jorge Mester, Leonard Slatkin and Sergiu Commissiona. One year after his arrival in Aspen, he began conducting choral concerts and his annual Messiah concerts have enjoyed continued success since. He was recently accepted for a two-month residency by the Dorland Mountain Artist Colony in Southern California. The residency commenced in late spring of 2003 and had Mr. Adams working on several works, including "The Passion", which is the fourth in his series of five sacred works. Under his direction, the Aspen Choral Society (comprised of the Aspen Community Chorus and Glenwood Springs Community Chorus) incorporated in 1995 and began to focus on choral masterworks. Mr. Adams is also a very active composer and served as Composer-In-Residence for the Aspen Community Church and the Aspen Choral Society. The 2001-2 concert season saw the World Premiere of two of Adams' compositions. "Angels" was performed December 8th and 9th, 2000 in Harris Concert Hall. "Angels" (featured here at the archives) is a sacred choral suite for women's chorus, soloists and string orchestra. "Songs of Divine Love" (featured here at the archives), a song cycle based on the poems of the Sufi mystic Rumi, was premiered on February 14, 2001. Also, Adams premiered his seven movement suite for chorus and orchestra, "Revelation" (featured here at the Archives), based on the Book of Revelation on November 30 and December 1, 2001. Mr. Adams' "Requiem" (featured here at the Archives) premiered on April 4-5, 2003 at Harris Concert Hall in Aspen. The text for the work is predominantly drawn from the Latin Mass but also features sacred and secular texts from the many and varied faith traditions practiced around the world. "The Passion" (featured here at the Archives) premiered in Spring 2004 in Aspen with the Aspen Choral Society. He recently finished working on his new choral piece "Creation" (the final in his cycle of five sacred works). The Aspen Choral Society premiered "Creation" March 31 and April 1, 2006 at the Harris Concert Hall in Aspen, Colorado.
