Vladimir Miller
Vladimir Miller

Vladimir Miller was born in 1964 in Siberia, Russia, and completed his vocal training at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, studying with the great vocal teachers Reinhard Leisenheimer and Kurt Moll. He then returned to Russia to study at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, where he earned a degree in Musicology. Vladimir has earned a rich reputation as a soloist with the St. Petersburg State Academic Capella, and particularly as one of the few vocalists possessing the rare low vocal range of the Basso-Profundo.

Among the chief operatic roles created by Vladimir include the part of Colas in Mozart's Bastien und Bastienne; Sprecher und Priester in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Osmin in Mozart's Entführung aus dem Serail; Caronte and Plutone in Monteverdi's L'Orfeo; and Konenkov in the premier of Yusupova's Einstein and Margarita, which is likewise found here at the Classical Archives.

Vladimir's talents have allowed him to pursue an active international performing career, giving solo concerts in Russia, Estonia, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Holland, Luxembourg, Yugoslavia and the US, among other places. He has participated in numerous music festivals, including the Abendmusik im Hohen Dom (Aachen, Germany), the Festival d'art sacre (Paris), Frankfurt-Feste (Frankfurt am Main, Germany), International Festival of Orthodox Music in Russia (Moscow), Moscow Autumn and Nick Caves Meltdown Festival (London), among others. He has worked with such outstanding conductors as Vladimir Altschuler, Vadim Afanassjev, Martyn Brabbins, Justin Brown, Paul Hillier, Mark Kadin, Vladimir Minin, Victor Popov, Hans Dieter Resch, Alexander Sladkovsky, Andreas Spierri and Alexander Titov.

Vladimir possesses a wide repertoire even beyond his operatic roles, ranging from ancient Russian to modern works. He has premiered numerous works written explicitly for him - by such composers as Alexander Iovlev, Alexander Knaifel, Anatoly Korolev, Andrei Samsonov and Iraida Yusupova. He frequently performs the songs of the master Russian composers of the 19th century - Balakirev, Borodin, Glinka, Lyapunov, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and Tchaikovsky, among others. In addition, he has performed solo roles in cantata and oratorio works by Bach, Mozart, Schütz, Tavener, Bruckner, Stravinsky, Penderecki and Arvo Pärt, among others. Vladimir has appeared on over 60 recordings, on such esteemed labels as EMI-Classics, Teldec and Melodia. We are very pleased to feature this unique vocal talent here at the Classical Archives.
